Yes, yes I'm sorry. last time we did a beginner's guide to 99 nights in the forest, it was only tips, no real guidance. Since many people viewed that post, I'm making a proper one. Welcome to gam3s101, your ultimate gaming spot. Today is the REAL guide. This with my Tips and Tricks in 99 Nights in The Forest will make an ultimate combo. If you’re just starting out in 99 Nights in the Forest, you’ll notice one thing fast: this game doesn’t hold your hand. Between dangerous nights, tricky crafting, and teammates who quit by Day 2, survival can feel impossible. That’s why we made this guide, packed with easy beginner tips to help you avoid early deaths, progress faster, and actually enjoy your run. Let’s break it down.
Should You Play Solo or Multiplayer?
Big choice first: do you run alone or with others?
-
Solo: Scales perfectly, easier to manage, no risk of randoms quitting.
-
Multiplayer (randoms) : Enemies scale with player count, but if people leave, you’re stuck with harder waves.
-
Multiplayer (friends) : Best experience if you’ve got a solid squad.
Best option? Play solo or with trusted friends. Private runs on private servers are smoother and safer than public lobbies. Don't want some random taking up a spot which was your friend's.
Dying from Aggressive entities
This is probably a very noob mistake but when you are facing an opponent like Alpha Wolf, Bear or Cultists and you're low on health, you have one main objective: Run. Most noobs think that even though they are low on health, their spear may be enough to kill them and then they die.
How to Progress Faster
If you want to rack up days (and badges), you need multipliers. Two main ones:
Beds : Every time you upgrade your Crafting Bench, you can build a new bed. Each bed adds +1 extra day after every night ends.
Missing Children : Interact with the missing poster at base. Track the trails → find the cave → beat the wolves → grab the dropped key → rescue the child. Each rescued child also adds +1 extra day after every night.
Stack both for max efficiency and you’ll fly through the day counter much faster. Getting Better Gear Early : Forget the default axe — it’s a waste of time. Find a Good Axe ASAP in barns, chests, or other loot spots. Also exploring with a Old Sack and without a Good Sack will most likely fill up your storage and wastes resources and time.
Pelt Trader – He’s guaranteed to spawn on Day 2, then shows up randomly at night afterward. His trades can power up your run:
Rabbit Foot → Wolf Pelt → Alpha Wolf Pelt → Bear Pelt
Trade up for powerful items like Revolvers, Giant Sacks, or even a Rifle. 👉 Don’t skip him , he’s one of the fastest ways to get strong gear early.
What to do during the day?
Your daytime is key. Don’t waste it. Prioritize: Looting – Check houses, barns, and containers for scrap, gear, and ammo.
Wood Gathering – Only after you’ve found a Good Axe. Cooking – If your sack’s full of meat, cook it all at the campfire.
Skip gardening early — wild food is plenty. Efficient Wood Gathering Each chopped tree gives:
3 Wood Logs 1 Tree Sapling
Pro Tip: Always replant saplings near your base. That way, you’ll have an endless wood supply without traveling far.
Food & Survival Management
The good news? Food doesn’t spoil in this game.
Best food: Wolf steaks — super filling. Wild food: Berries and carrots scattered everywhere. Skip farming early — save it for late-game runs.
Stockpile cooked meat around your fire so you (and your team) always have a backup. Handling the Deer The creepy deer creature is your main night threat. Light is your weapon – shine your flashlight at it to scare it away. No light? Run. You can outrun it near camp.
Crockpot is important, very good food source fills up more than half your hunger bar.
Work at night – Chop, carry, and craft if you stay in well-lit areas. Stay calm, don’t panic. Special Resources: Flowers Flowers work differently: Go into shared team inventory, not your sack. Fast to collect and don’t take space. Trade with the Fairy NPC for seeds. Best trade? Berry Seeds — fast-growing, portable food for long runs.
Common mistakes
- Trying to kill Alpha Wolfs or Bears with only a Spear. 🤦
- Not exploring and ending up getting killed by cultists raid.
- Not upgrading your campfire to at least Level 5.
Final Thoughts
99 Nights in the Forest is brutal at first, but once you know the basics, it shifts from survival horror into efficient base-building fun. Beds and rescued children are your biggest tools for fast progress — each giving you +1 extra day every night. Combine that with a Good Axe and a Good Sack (later Strong Axe and Giant Sack), the guaranteed Day 2 Pelt Trader, smart food management, and a steady base, and you’ll push well past the early nights , maybe even to Day 300. This doesn't include tips, pictures, or important crafting recipes if you want them click here. Comment yes if you want to me to merge both guides! This is THE GAMER signing off until next time.
