Astro Bot: A Must Play PS5 Exclusive

Astro Bot may be the most wholesome and cutest game of 2024 and even won the game of the year! Let's explore Astro Bot's story and where the game is now.

Astro Bot: Rescue Mission

This game was a PlayStation VR game. The game was released in October 2018 and received critical acclaim, with praise for the game's use of the DualShock 4 and its varied level design. It is the first main game in the Astro Bot series. The bots were from The Playroom and Playroom VR.

This was just a start for an amazing series

Astro's Playroom

Sony decided that Astro Bot should be the mascot for PlayStation 5 and when it was launched, each PlayStation 5 came with a pre-installed copy of Astro Playroom. It was a sequel to Astro Bot : Rescue Mission and also served as a tech demo for the DualSense Controller. It was announced on June 11, 2020 at the PlayStation 5 reveal event. It was launched with the PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020 to favorable critic reviews. The game goes over four worlds, each showcasing a piece of hardware on the PlayStation 5. You can collect artefacts from PlayStation 1 to 5 and even the PS Vita. These are the four worlds : Memory Meadow, SSD Speedway, Cooling Springs and GPU Jungle. Each world is themed around a different generation of PlayStation Hardware, showcasing artefacts and environments from that era. After beating all the worlds there is a final level ,which is located in the CPU Plaza, where you get transported to the past where there is the original PlayStation which was launched in 1994. The final boss shows up after a while. This boss fight is a throwback to the original PlayStation's first tech demo and features two phases: battling a low poly T-Rex and then a more advanced, pixelated  "Robo T-Rex".

Here's a breakdown of the fight:

T-Rex (CRT-Rex): The first phase involves a low-poly T-Rex with attacks like biting, tail swings, and a laser cannon.

Robo T-Rex: After defeating the initial T-Rex, it transforms into a more powerful Robo T-Rex, with attacks like pixelated missiles and tail slaps. Final Blow: The Robo T-Rex is defeated by knocking a trophy onto it, charging it up to hit its eye, and then pulling its tongue.

Astro Bot

This was masterpiece. Instead of just collecting artefacts and not the games that made the PlayStation's awesome, now we get references to games such as God Of War and Ratchet and Clank, it made PlayStation fans happy. It was priced at $59.99

What made the game shine was its pure fun factor. The platforming was tight, creative, and full of surprises. From creative gadgets to imaginative worlds, Astro Bot felt like every level had something new. It didn’t rely on gritty realism or open-world bloat—it thrived by being playful.

Astro Bot was proof a game didn't need to be dark or violent to be taken seriously. It accessibility for kids and hardcore gamers alike.

It's likely we see another Astro Bot sequel, mabye even for the PlayStation 6? We'll find out in a few years.
