DOORS: The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors is finally here! But it will only be playable from the lobby until August 25, 2025. It will then cost 10 stardust(from the Backdoor Elevator) and inaccessible for players who have not got the "Detour" Achievement which involves entering a sub-floor. Also there is another route to the Outdoors which involves getting a Skeleton key from Jeff's shop and getting shears from the courtyard. Then either on the entrance of the greenhouse (Door 90) or exit (Door 99) opening the Door to the Outdoors.

Players start by leaving The Hotel and entering The Outdoors. They find themselves at an exit to the Greenhouse which leads to a small courtyard with a fountain and vine-covered chest. and a shear closet. At the end of the courtyard, there is a metal gate and when you press a button it leads you into the Forest

Entities

Groundskeeper: He doesn't attack you on sight, instead only when you step on a patch of grass it makes him mad and if you continue, he will chase you. Continue on the path and you will be fine and unharmed. The Groundskeeper kills in one attack.

Surge: "From time to time, one or two green lightning strikes will occur, signaling that Surge is ready to attack, and to find a hiding spot. When aggressive yellow lightning can be visible in the sky, accompanied by loud thunder, this means Surge is coming. The player must hide in a closet or be electrocuted, resulting in around 40 damage taken every swoop, giving them a very quick death" Source:  DOORS Fandom in The Outdoors.

Even though I myself still haven't played this update myself yet. I credit the DOORS Wiki for this information.

Mandrake: This is a Harry Potter reference and in case you haven't read or watched Harry potter, the Mandrake's cries are fatal to anyone who hears it. However, you have at least 30 seconds until it kills you so follow the mandrake's vine and if you find where it came from and put it there, it will become quiet. It's an easy entity to beat.

Eyestalk: About halfway through, the player will start to see aspen trees around the area (the white trees with markings that resemble an "eye"). This denotes that the buildup to the Eyestalk chase has begun. A few gates later, players will reach a clearing with many of these aspen trees chopped down with a visible log in the center. Upon reaching the next door, the player will see Eyestalk emerge from the ground and begin to chase them. Players will need to run through many rooms while crawling under holes in walls, avoiding Snares, and running through The Outdoors. Some rooms have 3 paths, 2 of which are blocked off. The player must quickly look at all of the paths to determine which one lets them continue. Sometimes there is a cabin in the only path. Players will Be aware that the brick-garden corridor type rooms have Snares on the ground, so the player will have to watch their step to see where they are going. There are also bases of aspen trees that have been cut down, and the player can trip over those, ending their run with a death from Eyestalk. At the end of the chase, the player will jump down from a broken-down bridge and try to land on the path, but will fall short and grab on to the edge and watch as Eyestalk jumps at them ready to damage the player. Suddenly, The Groundskeeper leaps at Eyestalk and slashes him in half with his scythe. The player then stands up from the ground, as The Groundskeeper carries part of Eyestalk's corpse over his shoulder, and then walks out into the undergrowth. Source:  DOORS Fandom in The Outdoors.

The Monument is a spider-like entity that disguises itself as an obelisk. If not watched, the Monument stands up and shows its spider-like vine legs. Compared to the normal obelisks, they are shorter, and they have a slightly different color (unsure).

Behavior

  • If there are no players looking at Monument, it gets up and starts walking towards the nearest player.
  • The longer the player/s looks away from the Monument, the quicker the entity will move towards the nearest player.
  • If Monument reaches a player, it will stab the player and then drag them under itself, eating them thus instantly killing them.

Grampy is a friendly and talkative entity that only appears at the Mill.

 Appearance

Grampy is a humanoid entity with two glowing purple eyes and black skin. Grampy wears a black cowboy hat with a black stripe.

Behavior

Grampy is considered a friendly entity and will not damage players. Grampy sits on a rocking chair and rocks back and forth. When given 8 lotus petals, you are given a Lotus Flower, which revives you to where ever you last used it. The Lotus Flower can be used on every floor, including subfloors.

Bramble is an entity of The Outdoors. It serves as the final boss of the Outdoors, relentlessly trying to pursue the player(s) in The Hedge Maze.

 Appearance

Bramble has a humanoid body made almost entirely of vines, with its torso, arms, and legs made of vines, wrapped around a lantern, with the lamp of the lantern acting as its head. Bramble's lamp is split into two so as to resemble a mouth, with a vine sticking out of the front of the broken lantern like a tongue. On one of its shoulders, a small lotus flower can be seen.

Behavior

Bramble will pace around the maze at a relatively slow speed. The light on its head will periodically be turned on and off. While the light is off, it will not be lethal and simply continue to roam around, allowing the player to maneuver their way around it. Due to its tall size, Bramble's head can often be seen above the hedge maze; however, it cannot see you over the walls.

While the light is on, if the player is caught moving from a distance, Bramble will unleash thorns that emerge from the ground to rapidly damage the player. However, if it reaches a moving player it will immediately kill them. The player can avoid death by either breaking line of sight by getting behind a wall, hiding in a closet, or standing still.

If the Bramble is at a considerable distance away from the player, it will withdraw its vines into the ground and leave the remains of its lamppost behind, before wrapping around a new lamppost that is in closer proximity to the player. The remains of lampposts act identically to a regular lamppost, and can be reanimated. It's recommended to be wary of any lampposts because of this. If you walk past a lamppost while you are away from Bramble, be careful, as it's very likely Bramble will appear from it or another nearby lamp.

Caws

Caws are friendly entities that serve as a warning for the Groundskeeper or Surge.

The Outdoors has 35 rooms, 36 if counting the spawn area.

It is probably the hardest sub-floor but in doors it's the shortest amount of doors however, the game is counted in meters and the huge rooms may influence this factor.

This along with The Rooms is a sub-floor that can be accessed while exploring The Hotel.

These are the Special Locations in the Game that are guaranteed to spawn.

Guaranteed Rooms

0 m | The Greenhouse Courtyard. (The Spawn Area when accessed from the Lobby)

  • 1,400 m | The Clearing. This is where the Eyestalk chase gets close or begins.
  • 2,200 m | The Mill. This is where you can find Grampy
  • 2,500 m | The Hedge Maze. This is the end of the Outdoors and where Bramble comes.

The Outdoors is a fun sub-floor to beat while exploring the Greenhouses in The Hotel but one thing's for sure: I'm not making it to Door 90 to access the Outdoors so until August 25, 2025, this is probably be the first and last time I play this sub-floor.
