Playing with Friends vs. Solo Survival
Before you start, decide if you will play alone or with a team. Multiplayer adds more cultists to balance things out. However, playing with friends is often the better choice. If you get taken down, your friends can revive you. In single-player, there’s no help, and if you die, your run ends. Teamwork is essential for the longest survival.
Also if you want the ultimate beginner's guide, read it here. There are some tips here not in this document. If you want the complete guide comment "yes" on this post.
1. Don't Starve! Food is Your Fuel
This might seem obvious, but many new players get so focused on building that they forget the most important rule: don’t starve! Your hunger drops quickly, especially while sprinting, and when it hits zero, your health starts to decline. Always watch your food meter and make finding food a priority.
2. Day 1: The Quest for the Bunny Foot
Skip chopping wood at first. The best thing you can do on Day 1 is hunt for a bunny foot. Finding one early can change the game because you can trade it with the Pelt Trader on Day 2 for a powerful item. If you miss this chance, you'll fall behind, and that’s a tough situation.
3. Exploration is Key to Survival (Day & Night!)
The game is called 99 Nights in the Forest for a reason, you need to explore! Don’t hesitate to venture out during the day. You’ll discover valuable resources, chests with better tools, and new areas to investigate. The more you explore, the better your chances of surviving. If you don't explore you will probably die from cultists. Pro tip: When dealing with cultists first flash the deer with flashlight so it goes way, then go behind the missing child board and now the cultists will be trapped. Now just pick them off one by one.
Here’s another pro tip: exploring at night with a flashlight is a good habit to form. The flashlight can scare off the Deer monster, allowing you to roam farther than you might expect. Just be cautious, other dangers lurk in the dark, and a flashlight won’t protect you from everything.
4. Assign Roles with Your Friends
Teamwork is vital in 99 Nights in the Forest. Avoid running around aimlessly. Assign roles to your group to improve efficiency:
The Lumberjack: This player keeps the wood supply flowing by chopping trees and ensuring the campfire stays lit.
The Scavenger/Explorer: This player goes on daytime quests, searching for chests, new resources, and scouting the map.
The Food Supplier: This role focuses on hunting and gathering. This player brings back meat, crops, and other food items to keep the team well-fed.
5. Essential Gear and Combat Tips
The Spear & Morning Star: Don’t underestimate the power of a simple spear! It’s one of the best early-game weapons for short-range attacks. Its quick, direct thrusts make it effective for defending your base. As you progress, you’ll find a stronger version called the morning star, a spiky spear used by cultists. You can obtain and use it to your advantage.
Wolf Pelts: Hunting wolves is crucial for trading. Collect both regular wolf pelts and Alpha wolf pelts to trade with the Pelt Trader for valuable items and upgrades.
6. Campfire & Crafting Bench Prep is Crucial
Before you build your base or explore too far, upgrade your campfire to at least Level 4 or 5. A higher-level campfire provides more light, protection, and expands the map, making it easier to explore.
Equally important, prioritize getting your crafting bench to at least level 3 early on. This unlocks several game-changing items:
Lightning Rod: Protects your base from thunderstorms. Without one, a lightning strike can hit you or your base and deal significant damage.
Biofuel Processor: A late-game necessity. You’ll need it to create the biofuel that keeps your fire running when wood isn’t enough to withstand the storms. Also you don't need to worry about wet wood as i can also create biofuel.
Crockpot: A game-changer for food supply! The crockpot lets you cook filling meals like stew that keeps your hunger bar high.
Also Making a Sundial, compass and map is very important.
This is a small tip that makes a big difference, especially as the game progresses. After about 20 days, it will rain more frequently. A wood rain storage is essential to dry your wood, ensuring you always have usable fuel for your campfire, even during storms. However, after crafting a biofuel processor, the wood rain storage isn't needed because wet wood can create biofuel too.
8. Accelerate Your Run with Beds
This is a tip many beginners overlook! Once you have beds, they add an extra day count at the end of each night. This allows you to reach your 99 night goal much faster! Crafting better beds will increase this multiplier, speeding up your progress.
9. Rescue the Children to Increase Your Days
The Missing Children are four children kidnapped by The Deer. One of the main objectives of the game is to rescue them. The day counter increases by 1 for each child rescued. After being rescued and settling within the campfire’s radius, the child will walk to a random point at the edge of the firelight and set up a tent. This requires specific gear:
First Child: You can save the first child with a spear, especially if you have friends to help. This child is guarded by 4 regular wolves.
- Clicking on the missing kids' posters and waiting for a few seconds will show how they were caught. For example, the Dino Kid was sitting on a log peacefully before being ambushed by the Deer. If you want more information or lore on the Missing Children or The Deer click on it!
Second and Third Children: These rescues are tougher. You’ll need a revolver or rifle with good ammo to succeed. The second children is guarded 4 Alpha Wolfs and the Third Children is guarded 2 bears.
Fourth Child: The fourth child is the hardest to save. A revolver won’t be enough; you must use a rifle to rescue them since it is guarded by six bears.
New Updates
This blog is updated to August 2025 with Snow biome and Fishing update.Snow Biome: Polar bears, artic foxes, mammoths and freezing. Welcome to a brand new update. Snow biome in summer? Yeah it's weird. Get warm clothing from warm clothing building located near the entry of the snow biome. With warm clothing you won't freeze as fast so it's easier to explore the snow biome. However, this also brings the Owl, in part 2 of the snow biome update. The owl becomes mad and chases you if you move too much. If you don't move, the Owl will go away and drop features, which you can give to the bird watcher for fuel canisters.
Fishing update: Now you can fish! Dive into the latest 99 Nights in the Forest Fishing Update! Discover all new fish types, upgradeable rods, Fisherman and Pyromaniac classes, and weekly quests that reward rare items and Diamonds. Learn the best spots, bait tips, and strategies to level up fast and dominate the new fishing mechanics. (COMING SOON)
Also guys I made it to Day 131 with my friends however we were unsuccessful in saving the last kid in the game since we ran out ammo and our OP friend died.
Common mistakes
- Trying to kill Alpha Wolfs or Bears with only a Spear. 🤦
- Not exploring and ending up getting killed by cultists raid.
- Not upgrading your campfire to at least Level 5.
- Not making a biofuel processor for level 5 campfire. Also, a wood rain storage isn't necessary if you have a biofuel processor since wet wood is also accepted in the biofuel processor.
- Trying to beat the cultist stronghold with no bandages.
- Not having a good base by Day 80
Survival After Day 50: The Real Challenge Begins
After day 50, the game becomes significantly harder.
The attacks get more intense. Expect the Cultists to be more numerous and dangerous with the morning star, especially those with crossbows. The Deer monster also becomes more aggressive, becoming hungry for more frequently. Pro tip: While dealing with cultists flash the deer then, come outside the fire and go to the back of the missing child poster. This will make cultists stuck and now you can kill them without taking damage. Edit: I tried it and it was patched, the cultists can go through the missing children board. Instead keep your distance and hit them with a spear. Also sprint around crossbow guys and they will miss you if you move quick enough.
Weather plays a major role. Rainy days and thunderstorms become more common. A thunderstorm can damage your health by 50 HP, and if that happens, you’ll face a very tough night. The biofuel processor and the lightning rod you crafted with your Level 3 bench will be critical.
Fortify your base. By this point, your base should be a fortress. Use walls, traps, and ensure your team has plenty of ammo and healing supplies. Not having a good base by now means you will probably die from cultists.

The goal is 99 nights. The game doesn’t have an official end or final boss, but surviving for 99 nights is the main target for most players. After that, the difficulty keeps increasing, but many players leave the game or intentionally die to end their run, as it becomes repetitive after 99 nights, just cultists in more numbers and deer hungry every night. I have survived 131 nights so far! What about you guys, comment down below your highest number of nights!
Good luck, and may you survive all 99 nights! Share your favorite survival tips in the comments below! Remember if you want me to merge both blogs just comment "yes"!
