gam3s101: How to Start Your First Minecraft World – A Beginner’s Guide (2025)

How to start your First Minecraft World

This is gam3s101, your ultimate gaming website. Today we will start the game, Minecraft. Minecraft is one of the most creative and exciting games ever made — but starting a brand-new world for the first time can feel overwhelming. Don’t worry, this guide will walk you through your first steps so you can survive, thrive, and have fun right from Day 1.

Choose Game Setting

Firstly, there are two editions of Minecraft: Java Edition and Bedrock edition. Java is only on PC, but has mods and free online multiplayer. Bedrock Edition is on many platforms, Mobile(IOS and Android), PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. All of these platforms expect mobile have to pay for online multiplayer by buying each platform’s subscription. If you want to play with friends, I personally recommend Java Edition even though I myself play Bedrock on my PlayStation.

There are three game modes, survival, hardcore and creative each with its own purpose.

Survival:

The classic Minecraft, unlimited lives.

Hardcore:

Only for pro gamers. Like survival, but one live.

Creative:

Unlimited blocks, no health, no hunger. Best for creativity.

Also there are 4 difficulties: Peaceful, Easy, Normal and Hard. When choosing Hardcore the difficulty will be hard and it cannot be changed.

Peaceful:

No monsters spawn, and your health regenerates quickly. Great for beginners who want to focus on building and exploring without any danger.

Easy:

Monsters spawn but deal less damage. Hunger decreases, but won’t kill you — perfect for casual players who want some challenge without too much risk.

Normal:

Standard monster damage and hunger effects. You need to watch your health and food, making survival more balanced and engaging.

Hard:

Monsters hit harder, hunger can kill you, and new tough mobs appear. This mode is for players who want a serious survival challenge.

If you want to practice you can use cheats but to get achievements, start a world without cheats.

Day 1

As soon as you spawn look for trees. They are usually always around most spawn areas. Go ahead and chop down a tree after doing so you will get wood logs. Put these in your 2x2 crafting grid (which is located near your inventory) to make 12 planks

After making eight planks put 4 planks to cover your 2x2 crafting grid, you will get a crafting table.

Put two planks vertically on your 2x2 crafting grid to make 4 sticks.

After making sticks, place the crafting table and make this recipe.

After doing this start mining down until you reach stone and get 14 cobblestone.
After getting 14 cobblestone, make some more sticks and then create a stone pickaxe.
Now you have finish the basics, you have different paths. you could make a pillar of 1x1 dirt blocks to survive the night. Or, you could create a base with wooden planks. Or, you can just mine down, place some torches and set base there. I will show how to do all of these.

Wooden Planks Base

To make a wooden base we need a lot of wood, but we also need a light source and something to cook our food with. Start out by building a furnace in the crafting table. It's very simple, just 8 cobblestone and leave the middle empty.
After doing this, you have to create a stone
axe, create some more sticks are here is the recipe
After making it, go chop some trees make 4 planks and put the wooden logs (not wooden planks) on the top and wooden planks on the bottom. After some time, the wood will become charcoal! Now we can create torches using a stick and a charcoal on top of it.
Now we need to chop trees. For the next five minutes, chop as many trees as you can and when you have got at least 20 wood, create it into planks to make 80 planks. Now glass and door is optional but I definitely recommend at least a door. Here's the recipe to wooden door.
If you have some time left and it's still mid-day (just look up and if the sun is up that means its mid-day) then make glass. You can create a stone shovel if you want but you can also use any other tool but they're slow.
Now just find a nearby coastline where there is a ton of sand and get as many as you want. Put that sand in a furnace and light it up by any extra wooden planks. Now just place it in your base. You can create a small or big base it doesn't really matter. On day 1, I wasn't using a bed to skip the night and it's not very needed. You can kill sheep you see and create a bed if you have enough wool or else skip this step.
Also make sure to light u your base with torches and make a chest too with this recipe.
Now please just stay in your base and do not get too dangerous on day 1, the next you can do your exploring but I think you shouldn't go too far if you don't have a bed, not enough resources for a base, or Iron Armour

Underground method

Same as the wooden base but your base is underground. Just dig down so you can go back up and mien some cobblestone to make an area for a base. Also make a door to stop mobs coming it and glass isn't needed but for aesthetic, glass on the roof to see the world look pretty good.

Pillar method

I personally never have used this method but it isn't very effective considering the skeletons can push you off with their arrows and you will die. Instead, make a pillar (with dirt, stone planks and others) but surround the pillar with blocks so the skeletons can't hit you. Personally this method is very bad and I do not recommend it to new players because of the fact you do not have a base.

Also I like to keep my base near spawn point if I don't have a bed by night and if I die, I will probably spawn really far so i can't get my items. Also keeping a base near spawn will come very useful with compasses later on.

Thanks for reading, this took an eternity to write and it's The Gamer signing off. Tune in for more blogs like this one.
