PC Vs Consoles, What's The Difference?

Before I start this blog, I wanted to inform that I will do a QNA session in one blog so considering I actually get comments (which i rarely do) the next blog will probably be a short one one not at all. Make sure to post all your comments in any blog and I will answer then next week!

We all are not tech experts or serious gamers. I know. We all play gaming for fun so most of us don't even know the difference between PC or Console. Well I'm here to tell you the difference.

PC

PC's are usually way more expensive than a console, but the performance and FPS is what you're after, then go for it. PC's can come pre-built, which is more expensive than if you just built it, but of course you could easily break one of the components, costing you way more. Of course if you trust yourself, get all the parts and assemble it yourself. Now I can't help you in assembling, but what I can do is recommend some YouTube channels to get started like Linus Tech Tips or Zach's Tech Turf.

PC's come in tiers:

Low-end: Cheaper, most likely you won't hit the $1000 mark on low-end Gaming PC's. These PC's don't have the greatest performance and at this price point get an Xbox Series X, PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2 as they all are way better in performance than these low-end PC's. These usually have very cheap CPU's and motherboards.

Medium: These are the sweet spot between price and performance but these PC's are very likely to hit the $1000 mark and even though this is way more powerful than a console, if you're on a budget, then this PC isn't recommended. These PC's usually have a really good GPU like the RTX 4070 Ti ($799 MSRP) and RTX 4070 Ti Super ($999). Also getting a Ryzen 7 7800x3d is really powerful for  a build with that GPU. Especially for future proofing. Also I recommend getting a cheap RAM and SSD,of 1 TB,  (make sure to check the speed and if it it meets your requirements) could make this into a very powerful build. There is no need to destroy your wallets for a PC Case and a CPU cooler. But, you will need a good motherboard, and if a good one happens to go out of your budget, I recommend then getting a RTX 4070 Ti instead of a Super or a RTX 4060 which gives you a $200-$400 headroom for the motherboard

VERY IMPORTANT!: Make sure all of your components can work together and that one powerful component doesn't bottleneck the other which is cheap and can't work as fast as the other one demands. Also NEVER EVER cheap out on your power supply unit, if it doesn't properly convert power from AC to DC, your PC won't work out and it may even cause a fire. Also make sure to go on to PC Part Picker and pick all your parts to know the estimated amount of electricity will your PC take. This is very important for high-end PC's as they take up lots of electricity and if your components don't receive enough electricity, they will crash your PC. For mid-range PC get somewhere between 550W-750W range. Over here, it depends on your PC needs and the two components that take up most of your electricity is GPU and the CPU so you want to check how much they take (on PC Part Picker) and then get an appropriate power supply unit. This one thing is the one you DO NOT WANT TO EVER CHEAP OUT ON, as it can be a safety hazard and be the one thing that stops your PC from running.

High-end: To be honest, you can choose whatever GPU you want if your going high-end but if you decide to get an RTX 5090 make sure that you have enough power to do so (This beastly GPU takes as much electricity as a complete mid-range PC) so do not get a power supply under 1000W if you are getting this GPU and with a high-end Intel or AMD CPU you do not want to get anything under 1300W which is absolutely bananas, especially for your electricity bill, but really if you don't wanna pay double your normal monthly electricity bill, just get a console. They are not as powerful as this bad boy, but well if you wanna save your wallet and get way more performance per dollar, go for an Xbox Series X ($650) or if on a budget, a PS5 Slim ($449) or a normal PS5 ($349) for even cheaper performance.

Why are consoles better at performance in games?

That is a simple question. On PC's, developers have to optimize to thousands of different combinations of GPU, CPU, RAM and Motherboard. While on console, developers can optimize to just one combination which makes the developers make the game very efficient and smooth. Consoles also have less bugs on games that just launched due to this fact. Consoles are way more power efficient and the maximum power draw while playing a game is 220W which is WAY less than a mid-range PC and around a low-end PC's power draw. Yet it still can run games at 4K in 30FPS on Quality mode and a smoother performance mode can run games on 1080p at a smoother 60FPS. Of course the Performance mode is better on games like Call of Duty or Fortnite as the extra frames are crucial to really fast kills. The Quality mode is better on games like God Of War, which is a story game so the 4 times resolution will make the game look really good and you can easily see a difference while playing. Other games like Horizon Forbidden West or Spider Man 2 look really good on 4K and on story games you don't need the extra FPS like shooter FPS games.

I recommend a PS5 Slim or Xbox Series X if you're not into just destroying people in Call of Duty or Fortnite and just want to have something that doesn't break the bank, and gives you way more performance-per dollar and if you're just a casual gamer and not a pro then get a console. Now, if you're an Xbox fanboy (I'm a PlayStation) then get an Xbox Series X. If you're a PlayStation fanboy (like me) get a PS5 Slim. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE PS5 PRO, (this section will be the link after i release my PS5 Pro Blog). Anyways, if you're neither, I recommend you look at the specs of each and decide which one you like. If on a budget, PlayStation. Want more powerful gaming, Xbox Series X. Anyways 90% of people probably prefer console as it is cheaper and in the price of a full PC you could get tons of great games on your Xbox/PlayStation.

Anyways, in summary, Pro in Gaming? PC. Just A Casual Gamer? PC, overkill. Console, way cheaper and better. PlayStation or Xbox?   Budget? PlayStation. Performance? Xbox. (TBH I showed way too many PS Games so really sorry to Xbox Fans for not showing their incredible library of games cause I've never had an Xbox).
